  1. Robert Hutchison Swanton, the Ballybawn house, Ballydehob, was the landlord over Ballybawn, Scarteenacuileann and lands in Lisheen. He was called "Course" because he used to be all the time saying "of course a mhic ó". He was a very bad landlord. One Sunday a beggar man came to the door looking for alms and Course shot him dead. Then he got his men to bury him in the garden near the house. The people used to be afraid to walk the road near the house for fear he would shoot them. He used to keep a pack of beagles and hunters and if anybody had their gardens earthed he would ride his horses through them. If anybody had good dogs or hounds he would take them away because he did not want anybody to have anything as good as himself. If anybody had a good horse he would take him away.
