  1. One night as this young man laid down for to sleep
Young Bessy came to him and o'er him did weep
Saying you are the young man who caused me to roam.
So far from my friend and so far from my home
My own blushing cheeks has moldered away
Beneath the cold tomb in sweet Ballytown Bray
    11
He awoke from his slumber like a man in surprise
Say this is the voice of my Bessy he cryes
If she is as dead as the vision now say,
I will ly by the side in sweet Ballytown Bray
    111
He called for his servant to saddle his steed
Over hills and lofty mountains he made in great speed.
Until he arrived at the noon time of day
At the cottage of Bessy of Ballytown Bray.
