    who was on the side of the Lords is said to have made an attempt on Murty's life during the battle.
    Between battles, Murty who was an adventurer of the first order, carried on a rather extensive and lucrative business as a " free trader ". No doubt his dislike for Puxley prompted this for Puxley at that time had charge of the customs duties. His evasion of customs by bringing cargoes of wool to France and returning with cargoes of brandies, wines etc. earned for Murty a certain amount of fame as a smuggler.
