  1. Nearly every land owner in this locality rears horses, cattle, pigs, goats, but few sheep. Most horses, cows, dogs and cats get names. Common names of cows are derived from their colour - "Blacky" "Báiní", "Cronaí", Dearg, Rosy, Starry, "Donnaí", Saddle, Maol etc. Names such as "Taily", Thief, Beauty, Summer, Kerry, The "Breachy" Cow, Pet, Purty, Dandy, Silky, Spotty were also given, as well as names of a previous owner, or townland in which the cow was reared.
Horses usually get names such as Paddy, Tom, Charlie, Bob, Fox, etc. Dogs' names are somewhat the same everywhere - Toby, Spot, Driver, Prince, Brandy, Shep, Busy; etc
Cats were called by saying "puss" and driven by saying "Hi chait"
Cows were driven by saying "How How" and "ush amach anso". Cows are called home by "Sup, Sup, Sup."
