- Long ago the people had no guns to kill the birds etc. They used to trap them. The following is an account of how to make a bird basket and to set it so as to trap birds : - You must first make a square frame out of four thin boards about a foot long and an inch wide. From the four corners eight briars must meet on top, two from each corner and must be tied firmly with cord. Then the sides must be filled in with wicker work. The cage is made then.The next thing is to set it. To one side of the frame a twig is fixed in a semi-circular position in the inside. This twig must be fixed in such a way that when the cage is let down it will remain about three inches off the ground. The cage is put on the ground and raised on one side leaving the side where the twig is, on the ground. It is kept in this position by a(continues on next page)
