convenient to hold the fair in the village.
St Finbarr is the patron saint of Drimoleague and there is a fair held annually to his honour. It is called the Big Fair and is held on September 25th. It passes off like an ordinary fair nowadays, but long ago the men and women of the countryside used to gather into the public-houses, and they would stay there until the early hours of the morning singing and dancing. The schools of the parish are closed on that day.
