- There was a thief long ago and he used to go around stealing by night. Once he was found out and was to be hung because it was said that he had gold hidden somewhere. He was told he would be let off if he told where the gold was hidden. He said some of it was in bán chana, which is the name of a fort in Lassanaroe, and more of it in a bog in Coolnaclehi. Some years ago a man named Eoin Sweeny working for Mr. O'Donovan found a gold ring while digging potatoes. It is said there is gold hidden there still.
