    long ago but not now. Spades are bough in shops to buy they are not made locally. The potatoes are cut and a few eyes left in each split. The local people help one another. The potatoes are sprayed in Summer to prevent blight. In Autumn the potatoes are dug with a spade and the children pick them. the potatoes are stored in heaps. Champions, Kerr's Pink. Aran Banners. Aran Victors. Elephants. Epicure. The potatoes that grows best in this district is the Epicure and the Champion. In Summer when the stalks are high and the weeds are up they have to be pulled. When they farmers are spraying first they get a barrell full of water and some bluestone when it is melted washing soda is put in a bucket and water it is boiled and put into the barrell. Then it is all put into a spraying machine.
