  1. There is a Mass Pit in Raheen quite convenient to the new Church and School. In this Pit the people gathered together to hear Mass during the Penal Times. There were a lot of Mass Paths leading to this Mass Pit. It was situated in the end of a field owned by Mr Baldwin, Raheen.
There was a Mass going on one day when a man was passing the way and his horse got frightened. It was near killing some man. This man who owned the horse gave a site on his own land for a new church to be built. It was built at the end of the old graveyard in Raheen. Of course this graveyard was not there then. It was a thatched church in those days. The ruins of that church is not to be seen now. The present church in Raheen is a fine building. It is situated on a elevated site given by the Moffit family from Raheen.
