  1. The cuckoo winters in tropical and southern Africa. It is about the size of a small pigeon.
    It gets here the last week of April or first week of May, the note of the cuckoo being associated with the coming of Summer is generally head with joy by most people. It is considered lucky to hear its two note song in the right ear the first time.
    The small bird which files after and follows the cuckoo is called her maiden.
    It is a lazy bird and builds no nest of its own. It lays 5 or 6 eggs in all and puts one egg only in each separate nest. It is supposed to be able to lay the egg the same colour as those of the birds into whose nest the egg
