The local "Estate" was Wandesforde's of Castlecomer.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
that they took 27 acres each off them - thus leaving them 80 acres per family. This was divided among their children & their descendants still have it as follows.
    (I) Murphy, James Kealy & 10 acres now owned by Mr. Murphy Castlecomer.
(II) M. Murphy, John Murphy & each has a strip of land above John Lacey's, Firoda.
(III) John Lacy & Mrs. Coogan's fields beside the Ballyragget Road.
    (IV) Divided among three Coogans.
    (V) A. Whelans & Miss N. Duggan.
(VI) Richard Bergin and James Coogan.
    Thus each farm was devided.
the 27x6 (162) acres taken from the tenants was given to a man named Isacc Bradley who became a "middle" land-lord, and set to work the mines. Many people came for this purpose & the ruins of their houses are still to be seen. This Bradley failed and went to live in Castlecomer. He died where W. Dobbs is now living.
To return to the two estates, the Vaux Estate became heavily encumbered and was bought by the man Doherty referred to on previous page. He is always spoken of as a very good landlord; his great helper at his own Doherty's request; was Fr. John Kelly P.P Castlecomer
