  1. Time - Whit-Sunday Night, 1798.
    Scene - A young Wexford leader at the head of a band of pikesman on the way to Carrigua is counselled by an aged priest in the interests of peace. He replies in scorn.

    "Glory to God! I've lived so see the green unrolled on high,
    And Wexford's manhood risen, now, to right their wrong or die.
    For burned home and plundered shrine and our dear, murmur
    'North Cork' and 'Hessian' cruel shall pay for many a deed of sin."

    O'er many a rugged hill and glen flutters full free to-night.
