    In the Penal Times Oliver Cromwell came to Kilkenny, to carry on his work of distruction in wrecking churches, Convent's and Monasteries.
    There is a story told of the Dominican Father's in Kilkenny, whose home was the Black Abbey from which they had to flee. They made an under-ground tunnel under the Abbey which had several inlets. They resided there safely for a few months. They used to come out in disguise to say Mass in several houses.
