  1. St. Stephen's Day.
    Boys, and in some places grown-up men, gather together and go in procession from house to house. They carry decorated bushes and they sing wren songs e.g.: -
    "The wren, the wren, King of all birds St, Stephen's Day he was caught furze, Although he is little, his family is great Up with the landlady and down with the tráte (treat.)"
    In this district it is mostly young boys who go out + they usually have a musician among them who plays on a French fiddle. They dress in gay colours and wear false faces. They dance in each house and ask for money, which
