Ar an leathanach seo
- There was an old school in my village. It was a barn. For seats the children had stones. They used to (live) write on slates with slate-pencils. They used to leave the slates on their knees because they had no desks to leave them on.
The name of the teacher was Michael Coen.
The teachers that used to teach in the hedge-school were very poor. They didn't get any payment from the government but the children use to give them money for teaching them. The children used to let the teacher sleep in their houses on their turns and also give them food.
The barn is to be seen yet.
