A manger is put in the corner. They are bedded with wheaten straw. They are clipped near the Winter. Sometimes their shoes are removed and their hoofs are paired. The shoes can then be put on again if they are not worn.
If an ass is kept with cows it is said to bring them good luck. If goats are (are) kept with cows it keeps them from getting the black- leg. A certain weed grows on some land. If cows eat it they are said to get the black-leg and it poisons them, but if goats eat the weed it does them no harm.
