  1. In the time of the Fenians the Kenmare people suffered a great deal at the hands of the Invaders. A brave band of Bonane Volunteers drilled and fought under the leadership of Jeremiah McCarthy of Tullaha, Kenmare. Unfortunately there was a spy in the ranks, one O'Sullivan, but the people nicknamed him.
