When a horse is sold a hempen halter is given to the purchaser. The most important fairs held in Killarney are those of the months of July, August, September, October and November - one fair in each month. The fairs held in Castleilsand on November day, on New Year's Day, on St. Patrick's Day are the most important.
No special fairs are held for the sale of bonhams, or sheep or horses.
As a rule the pig fair, precedes the cattle fair. Bonhams as well as pigs are sold at the pig fair. Cattle, sheep and bonhams are sold at the cattle fair. Horses are sold at all the cattle fairs held in Castleisland. A horse fair is held in Killarney four times a year. Cattle are also sold at these fairs. In Tralee a fair is held once a month. This is held on Sunday.
