    The tramp of the trooper is heard at Macroom

    I dont know when or by whom this song was composed.The man from whom it was obtained learned it what fifty four years ago. Its principal theme is the execution of Bishop Ryan of Rose , at Barrigdeohid Castle.
    The tramp of the trooper is heard at Macroom. The soldiers of Crownwell are spared from Clonmel, and Broghill the merciles Broghill too come. On a mission of muder which please him well.
    In the park of Macroom, there is gleaming of steel.
    and glancing of lightning in looks on that field
    and swelling of bosoms with patriot zeal,
    And clenching of hands on the weapons they wield
    The wailing of women, the wild aililú
    Dread tidings from cabin to cabin convey, and loud tho , the plaints and the shrieks which ensue
