  1. We have a churn at home. It is a new overend churn. It is about three feet tall. It is about 14 inches in diametre. The sides are slightly rounded and is larger in the middle. It is quite a new make of churn and we brought it about two years ago. The churn turns right over causing the cream to turn into butter. The lid is screwed on with four screws and there is a valves on the lid which lets out the steam as it forms. Butter is made twice a week winter and summer. The women folk of the house do the churning. It is considered lucky if any caller calls in when the churn is being done to give a brash or take a turn at the churn. It is considered unlucky to go out without doing so. The churning is done by hand.
