  1. In summer and before Christmas a man who sells all kinds of articles made of tin calls at our house regularly. In spring a man and his wife call every year selling laces, matches, buttons, and pots containing plants. They are very poor and depend entirely on what clothes they can beg from people and the money they get from selling these articles. Quite a lot of people buy from them.
They usually get their supplies in towns and villages. Some people are very glad when they come, but others chase them away. They usually stay for about an hour. They sometimes travel by night if there is a fair. Sometimes they buy their meals and on many occasions people give them food.
