    stye:
    a) person whose parents are alive gets ten gooseberry thorns and throws one away. the sign of the cross is made over the stye with the other nine thorns on the following morning. one of these is thrown away and the sign of the cross is made the next morning with the other eight. the cure is finished after nine mornings when the last of the thorns has been thrown away. b) person with stye goes fasting in the morning to a "bricky briar" bends a branch to the ground and places a stone or sod on it. c) woman points her wedding ring at stye saying in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Ghost for 3 successive days.
    Headache:
    a) a small piece of shroud of dead person to be kept in the house. this is tied on the head. b) press the head lightly from the ears to the top.
    sore throat:
    a) gather about two pounds of small potatoes and leave in hot ashes for two hours.
