    and acquainted her of this young man and how he wanted a wife. He had a good farm of land, so many milch cows, young calves, pigs, and fowl, how his hens were laying out and nobody to gather in the eggs.
    The parties arranged a meeting and the young man arrived armed with a bottle of whiskey, and a black-thorn stick. Before the bottled is empty the match would be settled and the day arranged for the marriage. On the appointed day the young couple and their friends would go to the chapel to be married, then away home to a great feast of whiskey, geese, bacon, and potatoes. In those times there was no tea. There was lots of music and dancing.
    Around midnight the "whalpers" came and were always welcome. the "whalpers" were neighbouring boys who dressed covering themselves with straw and going in to the wedding house danced and amused the
