  1. As years roll onward the way of living is far more expensive than in former times. Long ago most of the people used to live on what they would grow and make their own clothing and utensils.
    Candle-making. In former years they used to make their own light. They used to use candles which they made them selves.
    First of all they went out in the rough fields and cut some thick rushes. Then they brought them in and made them into bundles and hung them over the fire to heat. Afterwards they peeled the green off them and dipped them in hot grease and left them to harden for a while. Then their candles were made and ready for use.
    Basket-making. They also used to make their own baskets. There were certain men who knew how to make them. The one who wanted the basket.
