  1. Once upon a time, about eighty years ago, at Ballyglass, Calry, Co. Sligo, there lived a gentleman named Mr. Gillmor. The house was burned down by some unknown person. There was nobody in the house at the time except the servants. A maid, who was outside, saw two neighbouring men going home from card-playing. She swore to the police that these were the men who had burned the house. They were tried in court and sentenced to be hanged in Sligo gaol. One of them was a poor
