  1. Relics of the Penal Days.
    In front of the grand-stand on the Galway race-course there are two big round flat rocks. Beside the big one there is a smaller one. The big me was used as an alter. The priest used to say mass there. The wine, water and town were placed in the small one. The people of Bally-bane, Parkmore and other near-by villages attended mass there. The large stone is called Carraig an Aifreann.
    When Tom Molloy of Clooncauneen was young he(he) heard his grandfather saying there was little chapel about two hundred yards from his house. The priests used to say mass there some Sunday. There was not enough place for all the people in chapel for it was only twelve feet long and eight feet bread, and so some of the people had
