  1. Cradle birds were made about fifty years ago when frost was severe, or a heavy fall of snow.
    They were made from elder rods peeled nicely and interwoven. At the base they were square and about nine inches high. They were brought into a point on top and a perch placed inside to support a Gabalog. To this gabalog was attached a string. The Cradle bird was set in the yard where the hen's usually feed and where the little birds come for the leavings.
    You watched at a distance and the string in your hand and when the bird went under the cradle bird you drew the string and the cradle bird fell and you
