Story (continued)
“Cuchulain and Ferdiad were two strong men that lived in Ireland long ago.”
(continued from previous page)baked, she gave the cake with the griddle in it to Ferdiad, and gave the other cake to the child in the cradle.
The first bite Ferdiad took out of the cake, he knocked out three or four of his teeth. He looked into the cradle, to see how the child was getting on and it was getting on all right.
At length and at last, he put his finger into the child's mouth to see what sort of teeth it had. As soon as he did so, the child bit the finger off him.
Ferdiad jumped up and said to himself that he had better be clearing out before the man of the house came in. The child in the cradle was bad enough but what sort must his father be?
"Well good day, ma'am. I'll call again some other time."
When he had gone, the child got up and said that that was a narrow shave.
When Ferdiad went home, he told his wife about all he saw and heard. She, too, got a bit scared and said to herself that it was just as well be content with her lot.- Collector
