   Tell Pat to start the fiddle, for the girls will soon be here,

   And pile more wood upon the fire to keep it burning bright,

   For our town never was behind, yet, on a Bonfire Night!

   O God be with the Bonfire Nights that ne'er shall come again,

   When we went gathering turf and whins on hillside, brae and glen,

   And peace be theirs, who danced with us, on bonfire nights of yore,

   Who is their graves - some o'er the waves - are mute for evermore,

   And God bring back the lone exiles who've roamed far in their flight,

   That they may gather peat and whins some future Bonfire Night!
