  1. Cures.
    Watercress was he old cure for heart failure. To find out if a person had heart disease, a cup was filled with oatmeal. It was then passed round the body, from the heart to the heart again. If he person had no heart disease the cup would remain full, and if he had, the meal would fall down a little in the cup.
    (2) When animals took ringworm, the cure for it was lard and gunpowder.
    (3) If you had warts on your hands the cure was a few drops of water from a rock where you would not expect to find a rock.
    (4) When people took falling sickness the cure was to make the sign of the cross over them with sand, the grains of which could not be counted.
    (5) Three drops of fresh water from a trout's mouth is another old cure for falling sickness
    (6) To lick a snail when the dew is on his back was the old cure for toothache.
