drawn on each side of the drills by a man and this removes all the weeds from the tubers and stalks.
Any time after the hoeing has been done, two horses are again yoked to the plough and the plough is then drawn along the furrows between the drills. This is to soften up the earth.
A dull plough is then used. It is drawn by two horses through the furrows and the earth is put up to the stalks which are now well above the ground.
A man follows this ploughing in order to remove any earth which may be raised too high and which may have covered the tubers.
Three weeks afterwards, when the stalks have again risen above the earth, the wooden plough is drawn through the furrows and the earth is a second time put up to cover the stalks.
This is called 'riding to' the potatoes. The next process is 'spraying' the potatoes.
This spraying takes place after June 20th. It is done at least three times at intervals of 21 days apart.
