- About a hundred years ago there lived in Ballyhanrick quick near our house a blacksmith called John Smith. Like many others he had some bad friends, and one morning when he went out to work he saw that his anvil had disappeared. In his great rage, and seeing he could not possibly do without it, he swore that even it was under the ground he would find it. All who heard his sayings were wondering what he would next do. To their great surprise he said nothing more, but fasted three days.(continues on next page)
