Fires and Smoke : When the smoke goes straight it is a sign of frost and also of fine weather. When the curling smoke ascends from the chimney broken weather is expected. Different colours in the flame of the fire indicate bad weather. Streaks of blue in the "Griósach" indicate rain.
When the soot falls in large lumps we may expect rain.
