    Long ago there lived in the town-land of Kilgalligan, a man named Dermot McCormack. He was a shoe-maker by trade.

    Long ago there lived in the town-land of Kilgalligan, a man named Dermot McCormack. He was a shoe-maker by trade. At that time there was a scarcity of leather, and leather could not be got any nearer than Castlebar. One Summer's morning he set off for Castlebar travelling on foot, bought seven stone of leather (and) put it on his back and carried it to Kilgalligan and was there at night-fall.
