    master was coming, but there was no sight of him. She then took up one of the fowls and she ate it. When she had that one eaten she thought it would be better to eat the other one Before long she had the second one eaten.
    As soon as Grethel had the second fowl eaten, her master came running in telling her that the guest would soon arrive, and asked if the fowls were cooked. Grethel told him that they would soon be done. Just as her master hurried away to see how the table was laid, the guest came and knocked gently at the door. Grethel's master was sharpening a knife to cut the fowls. When Grethel heard him she told the guest to hurry away that he was going to cut off his two ears, so the guest ran away immediately.
