- Long ago the people thought it unlucky to get married in the month of May and on the odd day, that is the third day after Christmas, and that of every week of the coming year is supposed unlucky to get married.
Some of the days of the week are lucky days to get married, Monday for health, Tuesday for wealth, Wednesday is the best day of all, Thursday for crosses, Friday for losses and Saturday for nothing at all.
At that time the people mostly got married in Shrove, and they went on horse-back to the marriage.
