    former times. This has not been a tradition in his family, People repair most of their shoes themselves now. Pat Farrelly Grangebeg Raharney told me that a burning coal is put into the water that the feet is being washed before it is threw out. When new boots or shoes hurt the feet this soreness is called a boot burn. This is cured by burning an old boot and rubbing the ashes or grease to the burn.
