    buyers did not get a luck penny, they hair would fall off the beasts. The custom was to buy the horses at the fair and give the halter to the buyer, and it is said if he did get it the horse would run away.
    The luck-penny generally given with cattle was two shillings, and with a horse a half crown. This varied with the price of the beast. That fair is not held in Meelick now, it is held in the city of Limerick, and sixpence a head is to be paid on each beast. This toll was never paid at the fair of Meelick.
