In the Townsland of Brittas there is a rock and there is a legend in this locality, that during Cromwell's sojourn in Ireland, he and his soldiers, having conquered the surrounding country, visited this district. One day when Cromwell was standing on Brittas Rock viewing the land around he was accosted by an old man with whom he entered into conversation. Cromwell remaked to him - "This is a beautiful valley along here." The
