    John Montague.
Mr. John Montague taught in this schoolbefore Mr. Barrett. Like many of his type he had an inordinate desire of displaying his learning.
Before he came to Ballyellis he taught in Shillelagh. One day he sent one of his pupils to a Mr. Mulhall who (apparently) was a shopkeeper in Shillelagh. He gave the pupil a note which Mulhall kept for years and showed to his friends.
The following lines were written on the note.
Mr. Mulhall on you I call
    As I oftimes before.
Of bacon sound send me five
    pound.
