  1. Once upon a time there lived long ago near Castlepollard in County West-Meath an old witch. She was a Scotswoman, who was in league with a band of fairies. She used to go around her neighbours' fields on a May morning and say the magic words.
All the butter in the land
Gather round the dead mans hand
She also had a ball of wool which she unwound as she went along. The result was, that when the neighbours churned there was no butter on their milk, nothing but froth, instead, all the butter was on the witch's milk. She used some magic words while she churned. The people brought some milk to the Monks in Multyfarnham, to get the evil affects off the milk.
The woman had to leave the Country.
