Mrs. Mary O Brien often told me when she was a little girl she went with her father to Ballagh to witness a man named Keogh being hanged. My grandfather was in Ballagh that day too. Keogh or "Kogh" was a great Irishman and was called "Croppy Kogh". He was grand uncle of P. Moloney, Clonoulty.
My grandmother also told me when a little girl she followed a crowd to Drombane Castle to see two youths named Cooper and Cheffley being hanged. Their only crime was to take out fire arms to shoot rabbits.
