    Old Schools.
People never remember hedge-schools to exist in my district, but they remember the schools carried on in the farmer's houses. The teachers who taught in those houses, lodged there. The farmers paid them a little money, and they had their food and lodging free.
Irish was not spoken by masters nor pupils. Their copies were slate and their pens were chalk. The children were seated on flat stones as chairs. They had no black-boards, but a big large slate set on top of a stone. The teachers used remain for about three months in every house.
    Told by my father.
