  1. There are seven forges in the Parish of Schull. There is one in Dunbeacon, and three in Ballydehob, and one in Coosheen, and two in Schull. Mr. Daniel Hayes owns the one in Dunbeacon, and Messrs. Patrick O'Donovan, Jack Driscoll and Jim Driscoll own the forges in Ballydehob.
    Mr. Dan Driscoll owns the one in Coosheen. Messrs. Con Mc. Carthy and Patrick O'Driscoll own the forges in Schull. Mr. Con Mc. Carthy's father and grandfather were smiths. The forge in Dunbeacon, and the forge in Coosheen, are situated near the road-side. Mr. Con Mc. Carthy's forge is situated near a stream, and Mr. Jack Driscoll's is situated in the side of the street.
    They are all roofed with slate, and the doors are ordinary timber
