    It was in September, I well remember
    Three Irish heroes to Manchester came;
    It was there intention, I now make mention,
    To free old Ireland from her bondage chain
    The police viewed them as if they knew them
    And to pursue them they didn't fail,
    They did surround them and in hand-cuffs bound them
    And marched them prisoners to the county gaol.

    When young Allen heard that those men were taken
    To O'Brien and Larkin he quickly flew.
    Saying. for Kelly and Deasy my heart is breaking
    Alas! kind comrades, what shall we do?
    Like three loyal brothers they went together
    And with one another they did agree
    That each man should go to the van
