under-ground passage from Fo Choill Island to where Patrick Hurley lives and when they used see any army coming to besiege the Castle they sued fire at them from Hurleys.
It is said it was Cromwell who plundered Letter Castle. The occupants of the Castle were Mac Crohans and when it was plundered they fled to Connaught, because there was a law passed that the Irish should go to Hell or to Connaught. All Catholics were severly punished during the Cromwellian times, because the penal laws were in force.
