   There is not a town in Ireland that has all along its twelve miles of road such magnificent and varied scenery as the town of Sligo. There are some beautiful and historic scenes consisting of mountain and lake, cliffs and valleys, rock and woodland. This road takes us through historic as well as scenic country. It is the country of O'Rourke of Breffni. On the edge of the lake stands the ruins of O'Rourke's castle. On the northern side is Colga lake which is also a very nice lake. Then we see O'Rourkes table land where the glens. One of them gave Thomas Moore the inspiration to write his poem "The valley lay smiling before me" ?
   Then on our way we meet Tubberngealt and it deserves an essay itself where the priests used to say mass in the penal days, when the priest and the wolf were on the same list. The is a trout in this well, but it is only visible to the pious who have done due penance. Travelling south the main road to the midlands through what may be called the western "gap of the north" we come to a small down called Ballisodare. Farther on is the country on Willie Reilly and his cailín bán. Here is the old residence of Squire Folliard which is now called Hollybrook Hotel. It lies on the shores of Lough Arrow. In the garden Willie Reilly courted his cailín bán . On this road we have the Ballisodare flour mills and the Collooney woollen mills. Farther on are the Curlew mountains of many a battle, one in particular the "Battle of the
