    Of food poor Padraigs Cabin always had a goodly share.
    From a father's honest labour and a mother's skill and care,
    And so he had food in plenty until that very day.
    When the land lords notice he received, the rack Rent for to pay.
    The cruel choice he had to make, might rent a heart to hear
    That he must sell the meal he had to feed his children dear.
    Or soon he would be roofless and his cabin in a blaze
    For the hand that would his cabin wreck his store of food would seize.
    III
    The thought of that pathetic sight shall always haunt my mind
    When I was told 2 lbs of meal was all was left behind.
    So the wretched mother told me in her sad and mourful tale.
