There is a superstition connected with Hallowe'en , and which is believed by some of the older people even yet. It is believed that the fairies or "wee-folk", are out on that night, and that it is unsafe for to go out on that night, and that it is unsafe for anyone to go out after dusk, unless they have salt and oatmeal sprinkled on their heads. These "ingredients" it is believed, protect them from the "evil-doings" of the fairies.
