  1. About fifty years ago poteen making was very common in Cranford and Woodquarter Co Donegal.
Canon MacCafferty now parish priest of Stanorlar was then Curate of Goland. Cranford is situated in the Goland district. Young Fr MacCafferty was very much opposed to the poteen making and did everything in his power to put it down. He saw the misery it brought to the homes of those engaged in it.
After a good deal of persuasion he got these people to stop making it. In Cranford district there are six or seven Presbyterian famers. Their forefathers were Planters.
